From stories I have heard, our second Enshrinee was truly a “legend in his own time.” Watching John Philip Sousa shoot targets early in the 1900’s interested him in Trap, and from the time he began shooting clays in 1931, he registered 53,875 16- yard birds. He was a ten time Georgia Doubles Champion and topped the State All Around seven times, the Singles four times and the Handicap once. His most recent state crown came in 1966.

At the Grand American, he won the Doubles title in 1965, won the Preliminary handicap on Friday and three years later he earned the Class C Veteran’s Trophy in the Singles Class Championship via shootoff. His first Grand American trophy came at his first Grand. In 1940, he won a shootoff and coin toss over Ned Lilly for Class A Doubles. 

Bill was a former Vice President of the Georgia State Trapshooting Association. A veteran of World War II, he attended the Georgia Institute of Technology. 

His accomplishments were many. On behalf of the Trustees of the Georgia Trapshooting Hall of Fame, I am pleased to present to you William S . (“B ill) Golden.
