Our fourth enshrinee was born on January 31, 1930 in Leeds, Alabama. Harry has lived in Columbus, Georgia for most of his life. He is a 1952 graduate of the University of Georgia with a degree in chemistry and has been employed for over 25 years in the soft drink industry. Harry is the father of two children, a son and a daughter.
Harry began his trapshooting career in 1955 at the old Capital City Gun Club in Atlanta. Harry credits his success in shooting to his mentor, W. S. “Bill” Golden (one of our initial enshrines into the Georgia Trapshooting Hall of Fame.) To quote Harry, “Bill Golden taught me everything I know about shooting a shotgun.”
Harry’s shooting accomplishments are legendary. He is a six time Georgia Singles Champion, a two time Georgia handicap Champion and a four time State Doubles Champion. He also took home five Georgia All Around trophies. Additionally, he won the Southern Zone Singles Championship in 1968 and twice won Southern Zone Handicap Championships, in 1956 and 1968.
Ladies and Gentlemen, on behalf of the Trustees of the Georgia Trapshooting Hall of Fame, I present to you, Harry L. Howell.
