David Lee Hollingworth started shooting registered trap targets at Wolf Creek Shooting complex which has since been renamed to Tom Lowe Shooting Grounds.
He won his first handicapcap event there and gained yardage. When notified by tami Daniel that he got a yard, he responded, "I don't have to mow it do I?" Needless to say he was pretty clueless about how trapshooting worked but from them on he was hooked and started shooting registered targets regularly.
He began traveling to state shoots, zone shoots and SE chain shoots. He ran his first 100 in Florida at the Southern Zone shoot in Odessa, his 2nd in Vidalia in 2005 which was the last year the Grand American was held there.
His trophy list is pretty impressive and fills most of two pages. One of his proudest moments is running a 99 in handicap at the very first Grand American held in Sparta, Il. in 2006. Of course this occurred in the morning and he had to wait all day to see how others faired. He was tied for high gun until the very end of the day when a lone 100 was posted. He went into a shootoff with the other shooters he has tied with and walked away with an impressive 8th place in the Remington nitro 27 Handicap Event.
