Charles Wright Jr.
(1916-2005)
(1916-2005)
Our eighth Enshrinee started his shooting career as a skeet shooter, but switched to trap in 1972. Charlie's list of shooting accomplishments is a long one, having won over 100 trophies including numerous State and Southern Zone Titles.
Charlie has earned the Georgia State Singles Vet Championship 5 times and has been crowned the State Singles Senior Vet Champion 3 times. In 1981 he captured the Georgia State Doubles Championship crown and the State High All Around Championship. His HAA score of 391 X 400 that year set a record that held for 7 years.
In 1981 and 1982 Charlie claimed the Southern Zone Singles Championship Vet titles and in 1983, he was the Southern Grand American Singles Championship Vet Runner-up. Charlie has been named to the Georgia State Team 7 times.
A heart attack in 1983 slowed Charlie down some, but he still managed to record 9-100's in Singles ending the year with a 96.7% average. At 82, Charlie still shoots "as long as my shoulder will let me" and he and his lovely wife Ellen recently celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary. Where? At a trapshoot, of course!
Ladies and Gentlemen, on behalf of the Board of Trustees of the Georgia Trapshooting Hall of Fame, I present to you Charles Wright, Jr.
Enshrined September 19, 1998.
